Hey there!! Hello mate!! You know me.. Pretty well.. We must have met at least once in your life. In case we haven't, consider yourself lucky. Because someone close to you (and I mean pretty close) must have been my admirer (sarcastically).
YEAH! I'm Depression!!
Still Wondering? Why I'm so confident that we've met? As per a report from WHO titled ‘Depression and Other Common Mental Disorders' reported over 5,60,00,000 Indians suffered from depression. (I know zeros are hard to count here but that's how much I've infiltrated your lives) And that is roughly 4-5% of total population of INDIA(i.e. roughly 1 in 20 people). The report said over 322million people are suffering from depression and nearly 50% of them are from INDIA and CHINA alone (That's huge).
FYI I've got great connections too.. In India as well as International celebs.. Wanna meet some of them?? Soon you'll.. Did you ever wonder how all of sudden one of India's top rapper disappeared? Was it magic of Badshah?? Haah!! U got it wrong it was me guys with my bestie MANIA.. And yeah we are talking about the Yo Yo Honey Singh. Yes! he suffered from Bipolar. This is what he has to say:-
"It was scary. One year had passed and I wasn't responding to medicines, until a fourth doctor from Delhi treated me. At one point, I thought I would live in this darkness forever. I had cut myself off from everyone. I didn't come out of my room, forget stepping out of the house. I had a beard and I didn't get a haircut for months. For someone who has performed in front of a crowd of 20,000, I was scared of facing 4-5 people. That's what bipolar disorder does to you."
I have affected the likes of Deepika Padukone, Shahrukh khan etc. And talking internationally the likes of Brad Pitt, J K Rowling and the Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington who as you might know recently committed suicide.
In an interview this is what Chester had to say:- “I don’t know if anybody out there can relate, but I have a hard time with life… sometimes,” explained Bennington. “Sometimes it’s great, but a lot of times for me, it’s really hard. And no matter how I’m feeling, I always find myself struggling with certain patterns of behavior… I find myself stuck in the same thing that keeps repeating over and over again, and I’m just, like, ‘How did I end up…? How am I in this?’ And it’s that moment where you’re in it and then you can just separate yourself from that situation and you look at it and you see it for what it is and you’re able to then do something about it; you’ve now broken out of that circle, that cycle.” And you thought only you are depressed...
Let's talk about my symptoms:-
• Do you ever feel like you have become dull? That you've kinda lost interest in everything??
• May be your appetite is reducing?
• Are you turning into an insomniac?
• You find yourself with lack of concentration and focus in daily tasks.
• Sometimes there even might be excessive guilt or worthlessness kind of feeling..
• And biggest of all - Have ever suicidal ideation came across your mind??
If answer to even some of them is YES!! Then HELLO THERE!! I'm already into your mind. And you know it as you can feel it that something has changed. You are not the same anymore. Many a times you would have thought how to fight me. But you can't help it. I drain your energy, hope, and drive, making it difficult to do what you need to feel better.
BUT let me get this clear to you to beat me you need take control of your mind. You can’t just yourself "snap out of it," but you do have more control than you realize —even if your depression is severe and stubbornly persistent. The key is to start small and build from there. Feeling better takes time, but you can get there if you make positive choices for yourself each day.
So, that was about depression in short. There is alot to talk about this topic since it is one of the leading cause of suicide in India and south asian countries. A lot of one's we care about are already suffering. But it is preventable. We can put this to an end, together.
Some of measures are :-
• Try not to isolate yourself. Keep yourself surrounded with the ones you care and love. • Diet can be helpful. Eat healthy stay healthy.
• Question your thoughts and whenever possible Write down your thoughts, It helps to release the negativity.
• Don't think this is an end to the world. Be patient you'll get over it. Definitely!!
• If nothing works seek professional advise.
We'll talk more about how to fight depression in upcoming blogs. And do share it with the ones you care for. So that it reaches everyone and makes a positive impact in the lives of one who really need it.
We can fight this together. This is start of a journey we'll all unite and stand holding hands... We won't let you be alone..
